Grounds for Divorce

Texas is a no fault state so it is not necessary to need a reason to get a divorce in Texas.  However, many of the fault grounds that people think of when they think of the term divorce may also apply such as adultry when a court in Texas is considering how the parties marriage failed.  

The document that commences a divorce in Texas is called the "Original Petition."  This petition must be on file with the District Clerk for Denton County for at least 60 days before your case can be finalized.  It is possible to finalize your case on the 61st day but this is very rare.
